Beautiful and unusual pair of antique floral embroidered net mats, believed to date to the late Victorian/Edwardian period, circa 1900–1920.
The dimensional floral designs are worked in lustrous multicolored cord/thread over fine black net, with metallic-looking accents and coiled detailing around the scalloped edges. The technique appears to be soutache-style or related laid-cord embroidery.
Measurements:
Larger: approx. 14” × 10”
Smaller: approx. 13” × 6”
Antique condition with age-related wear, discoloration/tarnishing and some loose/fine threads. The reverse appears darker because the embroidery is viewed through the black net. Uncleaned and offered as found.
