Antique Early Faience Beer Stein Birnkrug South Germany Floral Motifs c. mid-1700s
: Presented is a very old serving beer stein/pitcher made of faience in the mid-1700s. It was made in the South of Germany—the foot has a flare, as all South German faience steins were made. Most likely - Swabia—these floral ornaments were very common in faience, so it is hard to be more specific.
The stein has a pear-shaped body—the \"Birnkrug,\" as it is called in Germany. One of the factory decorators painted it with a picture of a beautiful floral ornament.
The pewter lid shows the original owner\'s initials engraved: \"F.B.\"
The stein stands 9\" tall, over 1.5 L capacity.
The stein is in great shape. There are some minor glaze flakes but no chips or cracks whatsoever. The pewter lid is missing the thumblift. Otherwise excellent condition.
