Offered for sale is a complete one of a kind antique D. Stempel AG “Vario-Linien” letterpress printing-rule assortment in its original wooden box.
Based on the style of the label, packaging, and construction, this set is believed to date from the early-to-mid 20th century, possibly the 1920s–1940s. Possible from WWI or WW2 Area. The exact year of manufacture has not been verified.
The original label identifies the set as an “Akzidenz-Sortiment,” 6 Punkt, Serie V, Auftrag Nr. 3063. D. Stempel AG was a respected German type foundry and manufacturer of printing materials located in Frankfurt am Main.
This is a full and complete set containing brass printer’s rules in various lengths. These pieces were traditionally arranged with movable type to create lines, borders, dividers, frames, and other decorative elements for commercial letterpress printing.
The brass pieces show only minor wear and are in excellent visual condition for their age. The original wooden box and paper label display very minimal aging and wear. Both remain in great condition with very little deterioration. No attempt has been made to clean or polish the pieces, preserving their original appearance and patina.
