Late-19th-century Bohemian white-overlay glass scent bottle.Hand-painted convolvulus flowers with elaborate gilded panels.Decorative collector’s piece; original neck and stopper are missing.
An elaborate antique Bohemian glass scent or perfume bottle, dating from approximately 1870–90. Various kinds of atomisers for perfume bottles are available and a dealer or enthusiast should be able to find a new or used replacement for this. The aperture is approximately 1.5 centimetres wide internally.
The bottle is made from clear glass with an opaque-white overlay. Around the lower body are cut-back clear panels, each decorated with finely painted gilt arabesques. The tapering upper section is covered with colourful hand-painted convolvulus or morning-glory flowers and foliage, framed by broad and narrow gilt bands.
A particularly decorative example of nineteenth-century Bohemian glassmaking, combining overlay cutting, polychrome flower painting and extensive gilding.
Bohemia was in the empire of Austria-Hungary when this flaçon was made so I've put "Austria" as the country of origin.
The underside bears a hand-painted red number “29”, probably a factory pattern or decorator’s number.
Approximately 13 cm high in its present condition.

Condition
The bottle is incomplete and offered as a decorative collector’s piece. Nibbled aperture, atomiser missing, chip to base. There is rubbing, scratching and local loss to the gilding, together with minor wear to the painted decoration consistent with age. The main body remains attractive and displays well. Please study the close-up photographs, particularly those of the aperture and underside.
