This massive 13.5-inch centerpiece ice cream tray/charger is an incredible testament to the mathematical precision of Gilded Age glass artisans.The design features a breathtaking symmetrical geometric layout. At the dead center sits a deeply ground, recessed 2-inch star medallion enclosed by a crisp architectural circular ring. Radiating outward from the center are six large, hand-cut outer stars alternating perfectly with six large geometric diamond panels. The diamond panels and negative spaces are meticulously filled with deeply incised, razor-sharp checkered \"strawberry diamond\" cross-hatching. The entire piece is framed by an elegant, beautifully smoothed scalloped rim.Because this piece was hand-carved from a solid blown crystal blank, there are absolutely no machine mold seams. The high lead content gives it an extraordinary weight, brilliant prismatic refraction under light, and a beautiful, long, bell-like musical ring when gently tapped.
