This low profile cast brass spitoon weighs 7 1/2 pounds. It was manufactured by Bernard and
Frank in New York in the late 1800s
The heavy lead weighted cylindrical
base was designed to prevent tipping
and shifting when used in railroad cars.
These pieces were also used in high traffic commercial environments such as hotels, offices and old western saloons. The piece shows age appropriate wear and use.
