Antique Victorian Ambrotype — J. Dempsey, Bristol
Beautiful mid-19th-century ambrotype photograph on glass depicting a young girl with a basket, featuring charming hand-tinted details, including the ribbon on the basket.
The reverse retains an original, partially worn photographer’s label reading “J. Dempsey, Popular Photographer, 30 Upper Arcade, Bristol.” Historical records identify John Church Dempsey as a Bristol photographer who advertised as “The Popular Photographer” in 1857 and worked from the Upper Arcade.
