Up for sale is a wonderful instant collection of two (2) authentic antique open-air skeleton fly fishing reels. Made in Michigan during the golden age of American angling, these raised-pillar skeleton models were engineered to allow natural silk fly lines to dry quickly after a day on the water. They feature incredible historic character and make perfect display pieces for a rustic lodge, cabin mantle, or serious vintage tackle collection.
1. Antique Shakespeare "Kazoo" Skeleton Fly Reel (Kalamazoo, MI)
• Details: Classic 3-inch model dating to the 1920s–1930s. Features a deeply pressed target ring emblem on the faceplate with sharp "SHAKESPEARE / U.S.A." maker marks.
• Condition: The original black enamel finish has worn away honestly over the decades to reveal a gorgeous, deep historic metallic brass and dark steel patina underneath. Features a solid black handle knob. Cross pillars and foot bridge are entirely solid and straight. Spool rotates smoothly with a strong internal clicker.
2. Vintage Bronson "Flylite" Skeleton Fly Reel (Bronson, MI)
• Details: Classic 3-inch model dating to the 1930s featuring a distinct teardrop-spoke spool architecture. The mounting foot bridge is deeply stamped "MADE IN U.S.A."Condition: Retains a large amount of its original dark factory gunmetal finish with honest surface scuffs and light wear. Fitted with its original, smooth milk-white composite knob handle that turns freely. Raised pillars and frame bars are rock-solid with a smooth spin and a nice internal click mechanism. Comes with a small amount of vintage line left on the spool core.
