Antique 1934 Afrikander Smoking Mixture Tobacco Tin – C.W. & Co. Ltd., London
For sale is a wonderful, authentic piece of British pre-WWII tobacciana advertising. This pocket-sized tobacco tin features a highly detailed, colorful lithographed lid illustrating an ox-drawn covered wagon traveling across a veld panorama.
Dimensions: Measures approximately 4.25 inches x 3.25 inches x 1 inch deep.
Manufacturer: C.W. & Co. Ltd. (Cohen, Weenen & Co.), 112 Commercial St. London, E.1.
Dating Feature: Stamped along the rear hinge rim with original patent markings: \"Hinge Pat. No. 34235/34\" confirming a 1934 production layout era.
Interior Text: Inner lid opens to reveal the classic printed message: \"In introducing this brand to the smoker the proprietors are convinced that they have attained a perfect blend of Tobaccos.\"
Condition Report: This antique tin shows an authentic aged look and presents very nicely as a shelf or cabinet display item.- Exterior Lid: The lithographed scene remains distinct and colorful with minor surface scratching, corner rub wear, and paint flea bites around the lip margins.- Interior & Base: The inner tray exhibits heavy age-appropriate metal darkening, graying, and oxidation spotting from decades of storage. No structural rust-through. The solid brown painted base shows light storage scuff marks.- Mechanics: Dual rear hinges are completely intact and working smoothly; the lid shuts cleanly.
