Large Coordinated Antique Door Hardware Collection – From 1938 Home
Offered as one lot is a large collection of vintage architectural door hardware removed from a home built in 1938. The hardware is believed to be original to the house and has been kept together as a collection.
This is an unusually large group of coordinating period hardware, making it especially useful for restoration of an older home where multiple matching or complementary door sets are needed.
Lot includes:
13 mortise lock bodies
10 skeleton-key style
3 additional square-turn style
20 white faceted porcelain door knobs
15 larger knobs
5 smaller knobs
Porcelain knobs are in very good condition with no chips or cracks observed
6 solid brass door knobs
4 matching knobs
2 matching knobs of a second style
3 dark hollow-metal knobs
Brass lever-handle assembly
18 skeleton-key escutcheons/keyhole covers
Multiple brass/metal door-knob rosettes
5 mortise strike plates
Original square spindles, including numerous knob/spindle assemblies
Brass thumb-turn/turn-knob hardware
Large assortment of vintage slotted mounting screws and related hardware
The hardware was used in different configurations throughout the house. Some doors used porcelain knobs on both sides, while others combined porcelain knobs with brass knobs or brass thumb-turn hardware. For that reason, I have kept the collection together rather than separating it into artificial pairs.
The porcelain knobs have brass fittings/shanks and retain their aged finish and patina. The brass and other metal components also show normal oxidation, finish wear, paint residue and other signs of age and use consistent with vintage architectural hardware.
No manufacturer names, logos or identifying marks were found on the hardware, so the manufacturer is unknown.
The mortise locks and other mechanical components have not been individually tested and are being sold as vintage hardware in as-found condition. Please review all photographs carefully for condition, styles and the exact components included.
