Antique 1920s S Sachs Toy Soldier Casting Mold Set Cavalry Lead Figures NY: $250.00
Offered is an unusual early American S. Sachs toy soldier casting collection, believed to date to approximately the 1920s.The molds are marked S. SACHS, 1696 BOSTON RD., N.Y., an address associated with the early New York home metal-toy casting industry. This collection includes multiple heavy reusable metal casting molds depicting detailed military subjects, including a particularly impressive mounted cavalryman and horse, standing soldiers, and an infantryman with rifle. The molds retain their wooden handles and show detailed casting cavities, alignment points, gates and period construction. Also included are the associated long-handled metal casting/melting ladle and the small surviving cast metal soldier shown in the photographs. These molds were intended for the home production of metal toy soldiers using low-melting casting alloys. They are not Civil War-period artifacts; rather, they are early 20th-century molds depicting historical/military figures. The pieces remain in original, unrestored condition with age-related wear, oxidation, surface discoloration, scratches and casting residue. They have intentionally not been polished or aggressively cleaned. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition and contents. An excellent collection for a vintage toy soldier, antique mold, early American toy, militaria, folk-industrial, or metal-casting collector. Finding several related S. Sachs military molds together with period casting equipment and an example casting is considerably more interesting than finding an individual loose mold.Sold as a collectible display set. No attempt has been made to use the molds or determine the composition of any remaining casting residue
