This is a very nice copy of Southern Wealth and Northern Profits, a book published in 1860 by the well known American economist, Thomas P. Kettel. The point of the book was to present detailed accounts of the economies of the Northern and Southern states, show their great level of interdependence, and, accordingly, argue for the preservation of the Union. As an historical source, the book provides an excellent snapshot of some of the thinking and debates going on immediately prior to the beginning of the Civil War in early 1861. As noted, this book has some age-related wear, stray marks, and fading of paper. But given age, it is in excellent condition overall with attractive covers and strong binding.
