For sale is an original painting on copper from the 17th century. It is a miniature portrait of an upper class wealthy merchant. Flemish or Dutch ca. 1620-1640 (Possibly Antwerp circle)
The condition is as expected for a piece of this age (Around 400 years old) on this kind of material (Copper) that has been unrestored. Mostly on the outer rim, but that can easily be covered by a frame or locket. I have included as many scans as I could in addition to a couple of microscopic details via a microscope. If you need any more let me know as I have taken several.
In addition, I am including a frame (No glass) that also includes an inner frame that is basically a later locket (With curved glass-probably a later 1800s-early 1900s). The outer frame has been completely repaired (Glued) and touched up to account for some of its missing pieces. I basically just had the portrait in the locket frame and just taped it to the back of the more frilly outer frame so it showed through the hole.
Also, the portrait locket itself is not a perfect fit for the outer frame, but it will do if you find a way to make it work. Or you could just hang it somewhere in the locket. Ps: I forgot to take a photo of the locket so if you need to see it let me know.
This sitter has a unique face with unusual eyes, almost as if he were looking straight forward he may be a bit wall-eyed. He is wearing an almost royal looking tunic of some sort, which indicates his level of class. Although he has a youthful demeanor to him, his receding hairline indicates he may be a little older than he looks.
The portrait is around 3 3/4ths inches tall x 3 inches wide.
The outer frame, if you decide to use it, is 7 inches tall x 6 1/8th inches wide.
