Helmeted head of Roma facing right. Portions of the identifying L. MANLI / PRO Q legend remain visible, with considerable ancient circulation wear.
REVERSE:
Sulla driving a triumphal quadriga right while Victory flies above and crowns him with a wreath. Sulla holds the reins and branch/caduceus. L SVLLA IM[P] appears in the exergue, with the important SVLLA name substantially visible on this example.
This is one of the historically fascinating military issues associated directly with Lucius Cornelius Sulla during his return to Italy in 82 BC. Rather than depicting a generic charioteer, the reverse represents Sulla himself as triumphator in a four-horse chariot while being crowned by Victory.
