A carefully assembled collection of nine pieces of British antique earthenware, circa 1851–1861 of F. & R. Pratt of Staffordshire.

The set comprises:• 7 dessert plates — approximately 9 inches (23 cm) diameter• 1 two-handled footed round compote• 1 oval footed compote inscribed on the underside: “The Blind Fiddler by Sir David Wilkie, R.A.”

Decoration includes transfer prints from the popular “country series” and the well-known scene The Blind Fiddler. The pieces are completely unmarked, which is typical for early Pratt-style production in this period. Attribution is based on glaze formulation, transfer quality, body composition and decorative style rather than backstamps.

Condition report:• Expected crazing throughout — characteristic of 19th-century earthenware.• Some wear to the gilding, especially on raised edges.• Some surface scratches and minor manufacturing imperfections consistent with age and use.• No chips, cracks or major losses. All pieces remain structurally sound and display beautifully.

These transfer-decorated wares were produced during the height of Victorian Staffordshire pottery. Many genuine examples from 1820–1865 carry no factory mark at all. This set shows the rich, slightly muted palette and fine detail work typical of the best Pratt output of the 1850s.
