About Alfalfa
Cool climate Alfalfa was specifically bred to withstand aggressive grazing and heavy trampling while maintaining strong forage production. This variety offers excellent disease resistance, drought tolerance, and winter hardiness, making it highly dependable in cooler growing regions.
As a cool season perennial legume, alfalfa is a preferred forage source for deer and wild turkey throughout the growing season. Its high protein content helps support healthy weight gain and antler development in deer while also attracting beneficial insects favored by upland game birds and turkeys.
Planting Instructions
For best results, plant Alfalfa in the fall or in early spring. Seed at a rate of approximately 20 lbs. per acre and plant no deeper than 1/4 to 1/2 inch.
Apply a 0-20-20 fertilizer annually at a rate of 500 lbs. per acre to maintain healthy growth and productivity.
Once the stand reaches approximately 50% bloom, mow or harvest the alfalfa for hay and remove cut material from the plot area. This encourages fresh, tender regrowth and helps maintain a productive stand.
