GLAZED STONWARE VASE

ADRIEN DALPAYRAT (ns)

WITH

CHISELED GILT BRONZE MOUNT

BY

GEORGE LOUCHET

1895 - 1905

TECHNICAL AND CONTEXTUAL DESCRIPTION:

Object: Stoneware vase with glazed surface and chiseled gilt bronze mounts

Total Height: 60 cm
Origin: France, circa 1895-1905
Style: Art Nouveau

Description:

The piece features an elongated flattened ovoid ceramic body with rounded shoulders and a short neck. The richly textured glaze displays a chromatic palette highly characteristic of Adrien Dalpayrat\'s workshop, with deep, fluid hues of forest green, petrol blue, and subtle purples, applied using flambe glazing techniques on high-fired stoneware.
The vase is mounted on a chiseled gilt bronze base and crowned with a matching bronze lid, both adorned with naturalistic floral decoration, typical of the Art Nouveau aesthetic. All bronze components bear the foundry number 2871, and the underside of the mount is incised with the mark \"Louchet,\" identifying the renowned Parisian bronzeworker Eugene (or Georges) Louchet, a frequent collaborator with ceramic artists of the period.

Attribution: Although the ceramic body lacks a visible signature or mark by Dalpayrat, the technical, formal, and stylistic qualities closely align with the documented production of his studio. The glaze quality, the elegant shape, and especially the collaboration with a bronzeworker such as Louchet, strongly support the attribution to the workshop of Adrien Dalpayrat, within the context of late 19th-century French decorative arts.

Condition:

The piece is in overall excellent condition. The vase does not sustain any evidence of restoration, chipping, cracking, or evident damage of any kind. There are a few spots of uneven glaze to, which probably happened at the time of glazing and minor irregularities inherent in the making and not visually distracting. Very probably manufactured hole to vase.
The bronze mount has been disassembled and professionally cleaned, not polished.

Condition reports are rendered as opinion and not as statements of fact and does not imply that there are no condition issues or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging.

Hauteur: 60 cm
Origine : France, vers 1895-1905
Style : Art Nouveau
Description formelle: La piece presente un corps ceramique ovoïde
