Portrait Miniature Lady Portrait, Romantic period Circa 1840-1850Dear collectors,Noblesse-Collectionis pleased to propose you thisparticularly fine mid-19thcentury portrait miniature of an elegant young lady, beautifully hand-painted on porcelain, datingfrom circa 1840–1850 and most probably belonging to the German or Austrian School.
The young woman is portrayed three-quarter length against a softly graduated brown background.She wears an elegant bright blue dress with a wide neckline and finely detailed white lace cuffs,together with a long black necklace terminating in two decorative pendants.
Her dark hair is smoothly arranged with a central parting, in a style characteristic of the 1840s.The portrait is particularly attractive for the delicacy of the sitter's features, the subtle modellingof the complexion and the remarkably smooth and refined quality of the porcelain painting.
The reverse bears an interesting old handwritten inscription. The upper line appears to read“Frau Lipp”, most probably identifying the sitter. The following inscription appears to includethe German words “verheiratete” and “Gräfin”, suggesting a reference to her married nameor title. The remainder of the inscription is partially faded and cannot be deciphered withsufficient certainty. It has therefore deliberately not been interpreted further.
The portrait remains preserved in its original period gilt-wood frame, forming a particularlyattractive and harmonious mid-19th century ensemble.
