Antique French Gentleman Portrait Miniature Oil on Copper c.1825Dear collectors,Noblesse-Collectionis pleased to propose you this fine early 19th-centuryportrait miniature of an elegant gentleman, painted in oil on copper and dating from circa1820–1830, during the Bourbon Restoration period.
The sitter is portrayed bust-length against a dark background, wearing a black coat with a highcollar and an elaborate white cravat. His dark hair, fine moustache and small tuft beneath thelower lip give the portrait considerable character and are characteristic of fashionable maleappearance during the early decades of the 19th century.
The portrait is finely executed in oil on a thin copper plate. Particularly interesting is the modellingof the face, where warm ochre and yellowish half-tones are used around the eyes, nose and mouth,contrasting with the pinker tones of the cheeks and giving depth to the complexion.
The portrait retains its original period wooden gilt frame, finely decorated with floraland ornamental motifs.

Condition: The oil painting on copper is in good antique condition. The portrait and particularly thesitter\'s facial features remain very well preserved. There are minor age-related surface wear and afew small scattered losses, principally towards the edges. No significant restoration is apparent fromvisual examination, although minor old retouching cannot be entirely excluded. The reverse of thecopper plate shows expected age-related oxidation. The original giltwood frame is in excellentcondition overall, with only minor wear to the gilding along the edges, as visible in the photographs.Please examine the photographs carefully as they form an integral part of the condition description.
