George Tiemann & Co. checkered - ebony - handled, metacarpal surgical bone saw, circa 1840-1880. 8 1/4\" overall with a 4 1/2\"blade. Coarse alternating set teeth. Blade not cleaned or refinished. Original saw. Tiemann also used this handle style in Civil War Era sets. No missing or broken teeth. The teeth design is to make a wider kerf that will not bind in bone. Principally use on hand, foot, fingers or toes. The company mark is also on the top of the wooden handle. Unusual to find a saw of this character not in a set.
