The study is based largely on original sources in the collections of the Mississippi Historical Society. Andrew Jackson\'s campaign in the War of 1812, particularly concerning the Mississippi Territory, focused on defending the Gulf Coast, especially New Orleans, against British invasion after his earlier victories in the Creek War. He famously organized diverse troops, marched them to New Orleans, fortified defenses along the Rodriguez Canal (Chalmette Plantation), and decisively defeated a major British assault in January 1815, securing the region and boosting his national fame.
