I have here for sale a complete 4 volume set of THE HISTORY OF EUROPE from THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION IN 1789 to THE RESTORATION OF THE BOURBONS IN 1815 by ARCHIBALD ALISON, Advocate.When travelling in France in 1814 he conceived the idea of his expansive History of Europe from the commencement of the French revolution to the restoration of the Bourbons. This set is usually regarded as Alison\'s chief historical work and is considered to be the first scholarly English-language study of the French Revolution. This reprint was published in New York, America in 1844.
Bound in full leather boards. Boards and spines are worn. Partial title blocks still present. Marbled fore-edges. Inked name on the inside of the boards. Vol I - pages toned and foxed. Vol II pages generally clean and bright. Vol III & IV toning and foxing mainly to page margins. All remain tightly bound with no loose or missing pages 583,600, 618, 631pp. But price is reflective of the poor condition of the binding. 25cm x 17cm.
