A Small Pair ofAntique Thai Gilt Bronze Figures of Kneeling Buddhist Monks, 19th century.The pair of accompanying monk devotees to a Buddha figure, known as Moggallana and Sariputta making obeisance to the Buddha. Each figure is in a kneeling position with the flank resting on the heels with toes curled under, on a dais of a tiered and ornamented plinth stand. Each figure with hands clasped in front of the chest in a praying position (anjali mudra), a gesture of devotion. Each figure has a base of gold leafed black lacquer with a good deal having worn away in places. The traditional robe costumes are cast with simple detailed outlines and are worn over the left shoulder exposing the right shoulder.Rattanakosin Kingdom, 1782 - 1932.Condition: Signs of wear and age with lacquer loss and rubbing of the gold leaf in areas, otherwise fine condition.Each figure measuring: 8 in. high x 3.5 in. wide x 4.75 in. deep.
