UPDATE: IF you have proto 2000 locomotives, you need to measure the diameter and count the teeth of your gear before you order. Some of the proto locos have the same gear as Athearn which have 12 teeth. Some proto locos have 11 teeth gears. So, before you order count the teeth of the axle gears and order. I have both gears. Look in to my other items for sale.Please read the response about these gears from buyers who have purchased them from me.
IF YOU HAVE A GEAR WHICH IS HARD TO FIND, LET ME KNOW. SEND ME COUPLE OF PICS, MAYBE I CAN MAKE IT FOR A FEE.These are 3D printed gears. I have designed and printed them myself. I have installed them on my locos which had broken gears. They run smoothly and quietly. The holes are not like the new Athearn gears, which you have to drill them again in order to be able to fit the wheel in it. The holes in my printed gears are perfect and with some pressure wheels go in really tight. I have redesigned and printed maybe 30 or 40 before I have finalized the design.I have printed them with many different printer setting too.I have ran them on my locos to test them.
I have done some improvement over the Athearn design which makes my gears better, but I am not gonna tell you what they are.
I have included a picture which shows the Athearn actual gear on the left with the red stick and my printed ones on the right.
I print them with the maximum density for smoother surface and strength. I print 6 or 8 at a time for a better quality print, not 20 or 30 at a time. I print in 0.08mm thickness. That\'s the lowest layer thickness.
Wheel shaft thickness should be 2.36. 2.35 or 2.34mm to fit this gear. I have measured three different wheel shaft sizes on the Athearn wheels.
The last picture has three gears. The red one is Athearn gear (12 teeth), the middle one is my printed one and the right white one is out of Life like GP20 which is the exact gear (12 teeth) as the Athearn.( I usually ship out the next day!)Do not force them in, twist them slowly and push at the same time.You should clean the wheel shaft to make sure there is no oil on the shaft.
