Wonderful collection of 6 original vintage LIFE magazines, spanning more than 40 years of American and world history.

Included are five early issues from 1940–1950, plus a fascinating September 1981 Artificial Heart issue.

• February 26, 1940 – Roadside Service cover
Features Depression-era America, European wartime news, German-occupied Poland, astronomy, science, entertainment and more.

• April 1, 1940 – Spring Training / John Rucker cover
Features baseball spring training, WWII-era European news, the Queen Mary and Mauretania, art, medicine and American life.

• July 15, 1946 – Mermaid / Welded Water Gadgets cover
Includes important coverage of the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll, Princess Elizabeth, postwar Europe, the Kremlin, medicine, art and American life.

• December 12, 1949 – Joan Appleton cover
Includes postwar news, Western Germany, television, science, art, movies and extensive LIFE photography.

• September 4, 1950 – Marines on Reconnaissance cover
A particularly interesting Korean War-era issue, featuring U.S. troops, military reporting, Russia, fashion, art, entertainment and contemporary American culture.

• September 1981 – The Artificial Heart Is Here
Features LIFE\'s coverage of the development of the artificial heart, including historic surgery in Houston, plus Disney World, Hollywood, fashion and other stories of the period.

CONDITION

Good vintage condition overall with normal age-related wear consistent with magazines approximately 45–86 years old.

The magazines have been well cared for, but please note:

• Original mailing/address labels remain on some covers
• Some age-related edge, corner and surface wear may be present
• The December 12, 1949 issue has separated from its cover
• The remaining magazines are intact as shown

Please examine all photographs carefully, as they are an important part of the condition description.

These original LIFE magazines offer wonderful period photography, advertisements, news reporting and cultural history and would make an excellent addition to a collection of vintage magazines, WWII memorabilia, Korean War history, journalism, photography or Americana.
