Why Australia / why Perth?
Australia is a sovereign issuer. That lets Perth strike a legal-tender coin, not a bar pretending to be money. Perth Mint has been Australia’s precious-metals mint since 1899. They built modern Lunar demand, then put the same Asian market into a minted rectangle so it sits in a stack like a bar and still carries a $1 face.
Why this year?
Perth changes the rectangle art every year. 2018–2019 were earlier single-dragon layouts. 2020 was the two-dragon / flaming-pearl year. 2021 is the coiled single-dragon year you see in these photos.
