2020-W Salt River Bay quarter from the West Point Mint. Circulating America the Beautiful issue, copper-nickel clad, W mint mark, and the V75 privy mark.
The reverse is a red mangrove in Salt River Bay, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Roots in the water, canopy above, shoreline behind. Legends read SALT RIVER BAY, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS, 2020, and E PLURIBUS UNUM. Designer initials RaM and sculptor initials JFM are on the reverse. The obverse has the restored Flanagan portrait of Washington with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, QUARTER DOLLAR, the W mint mark under the motto, and the V75 privy to the left of Washington, above LIBERTY. Reeded edge.
History & Significance:
Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve is on St. Croix. Congress created it in 1992. It is the only place under the U.S. flag where a documented Columbus landing, a surviving tropical forest, and a living mangrove-estuary system sit on the same ground. The mangrove in the design is the shoreline that holds that bay together.
This is the 53rd coin in the America the Beautiful program and the third 2020 design.
Why this coin hits:
2019–2020 the Mint put West Point quarters into circulation on purpose. Two million of each design, W mint mark, mixed into Philadelphia and Denver bags. Not sold in mint sets. Not released to dealers in bulk.
2020 they added a privy. Circulating U.S. quarters did not carry privy marks before this. V75 — Victory, 75 years after World War II, inside the Rainbow Pool outline from the WWII Memorial — is the first privy on a circulating quarter. Left of Washington. The W and the V75 are both on this coin.

Struck at the United States Mint, West Point, New York. Obverse is John Flanagan’s Washington, restored by William Cousins. Reverse designed by Richard Masters of the Mint’s Artistic Infusion Program and sculpted by Joseph Menna, then Chief Engraver. Issued to honor Salt River Bay and to put a scarce W + V75 quarter into circulation on purpose.
