What this is: 2009 Topps Triple Threads Relics #TTR-34 Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts — the pink parallel, three game-worn jersey windows die-cut to spell IND, hand numbered 08/25. Raw, not in a holder.
Certificate, quoted exactly as printed on the back: “THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC GAME-WORN JERSEY RELIC CARD OF PEYTON MANNING FROM 2009 TOPPS TRIPLE THREADS FOOTBALL. The relics contained in this card are not from any specific game, event or season.” There is no third-party grading and no separate certification number.
Game-worn, and worth saying plainly: Topps warrants this as game-worn cloth — not the event-worn or rookie-premiere material that fills a great many relic cards from this era.
What the guarantee does and does not say: Topps warrants the cloth is authentic, then states outright that “the relics contained in this card are not from any specific game, event or season.” So I will not tell you this swatch came from a particular Sunday — the card explicitly declines to say that, and an honest listing quotes the limitation rather than burying it.
Appearance & swatch detail: A horizontal card on a deep magenta and crimson field with the Colts\' horseshoe ghosted into the background. Manning is photographed at the left in the Colts\' white road jersey, number 18, captain\'s patch on the chest, arm cocked to throw. Three die-cut windows spell I N D in white, red and royal blue jersey cloth — three different materials, with the white perforations of athletic mesh clearly visible through the blue. TRIPLE THREADS 2009 runs across a gold banner at the bottom, MANNING on a silver ribbon above the letters. The serial 08/25 is stamped in silver foil at the top right. Twenty-five copies exist. This is number 8.
Playing career: The first overall pick of the 1998 draft out of Tennessee. Fourteen seasons in Indianapolis, four in Denver. He retired holding 71,940 passing yards, 539 touchdown passes and a 96.5 career rating on 6,125 completions.
He is a five-time NFL Most Valuable Player — 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2013 — still the most by any player in league history. Fourteen Pro Bowls. Seven first-team All-Pro selections. Two Super Bowl titles, XLI with the Colts and 50 with the Broncos, and he was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XLI. In 2013 he threw for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns, both single-season NFL records at the time. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021, on the first ballot.
About the note on the back of the card: Topps printed that “Manning has been the starting quarterback for all 117 wins since he was drafted by Indianapolis in 1998. No other team has won more than 100 with one QB in that span.” I checked it: the Colts won exactly 117 regular-season games from 1998 through 2008, and Manning started every one — part of a run of 208 consecutive starts. The closest rival was Brett Favre in Green Bay at 97. So the claim was accurate the day it was printed. It is a snapshot, not a current figure: the streak ended when he missed the 2011 season, and he finished his career in Denver.
