What this is: 2009 SP Signature Edition Triple Scripts #TR-JBJ — three on-card autographs on one card: Martellus Bennett, Keon Lattimore and Mike Jenkins, all Dallas Cowboys. Hand numbered 22/99. Raw, not in a holder.
Certificate, quoted exactly as printed on the back: “CONGRATULATIONS! You have received a trading card that includes autographs of Martellus Bennett, Keon Lattimore and Mike Jenkins. These autographs were signed in the presence of a company representative or sent from, and certified as to their authenticity by the athletes named above. Enjoy your autographed card!” Signed beneath by Richard P. McWilliam, The Upper Deck Company. There is no third-party grading and no separate certification number.
Autograph format: these are hard-signed — ink laid directly on the card stock, not on applied labels. You can see the blue strokes running straight over the printed jersey numbers and the design\'s swoosh lines, with no sticker edge anywhere. On a card from this era that is worth pointing out, because a great many autographs of the period are stickers.
Appearance: A horizontal card in cream and silver with a green TRIPLE SCRIPTS panel running up the right side. Three signature lines stack down the left, each labelled with the player\'s name, position and jersey number: Bennett 80, Lattimore 29, Jenkins 21. All three signatures are in blue ink and all three are bold and unhesitant. Three photographs of the players in Cowboys white run up the right edge. The back is cream and gold, with a Cowboys star beside each name and the SP Signature Edition mark at the bottom. Ninety-nine copies exist. This is number 22.
Martellus Bennett, tight end, Texas A&M, taken by Dallas in the second round, 61st overall, in 2008. Eleven seasons across Dallas, the Giants, Chicago, New England and Green Bay: 433 receptions, 4,573 yards, 30 touchdowns. His best year was 2014 in Chicago — 90 catches for 916 yards, a franchise record for a tight end. Pro Bowl in 2014 and a Super Bowl LI champion with New England.
Mike Jenkins, cornerback, South Florida, taken by Dallas in the first round, 25th overall, in 2008. Eight seasons with the Cowboys, Raiders and Buccaneers: 244 tackles, 10 interceptions, 54 passes defensed. His 2009 season — five interceptions and 23 passes defensed — earned him a Pro Bowl selection. He was a first-team All-American at USF in 2007.
Keon Lattimore, running back, Maryland, signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in April 2008. He spent time with the Cowboys and on practice squads in Jacksonville and San Francisco, but never appeared in an NFL regular-season game — I would rather tell you that than let the card imply otherwise. At Maryland he was genuinely productive: 1,744 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns, including 813 yards and 13 scores as a senior in 2007. He is the younger brother of Ray Lewis, the Hall of Fame linebacker — different surnames, same family, and a detail that surprises most people who come across this card.
Condition: Raw, ungraded, never submitted. Stored in a penny sleeve.
