Movement: TonalismTonalism developed in the United States from the 1880s into the early 20th century, Dawson is among a distinct group of tonalism artists such as George Inness, James McNeill Whistler, and Dwight TryonAntique Landscape Oil Painting by Richmond Virginia British Born Artist Arthur DawsonDawson was selected to oversee the restoration of the paintings in the New York Public Library and West Point. Dawson continued his own avocation as an artist, exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Academy around the turn of the century. He also had associations in Chicago around this time as well. He then moved the Dawson family to Richmond, Virginia. This painting could very well date to his early years in Richmond.
Condition:some flaking on the art, and wood frame is cracked
