1989-Mo Mexico 1 oz Silver Libertad PCGS MS68 — Insanely Shiny Blast-White Luster — w/o Dot Variety
I bought a full original roll of 20 of these 1989s. I told everyone I was sending them in for grading… and I did. I sold most of them. This is one of the last two that came back from PCGS — a rock-solid MS68.
This is the insanely shiny, blast-white, mirror-like silver beauty. Looks like it just left the mint yesterday. Pure liquid silver fire with blazing original luster.
Desirable “w/o Dot before 999” variety (Ley 999 without the period).
Why this coin is special
The Mexican Silver Libertad is one of the most respected bullion series in the world. First issued in 1982 by the Casa de Moneda de México (the oldest mint in the Americas, established 1535). These coins have no face value — they are legal tender based purely on their silver content, guaranteed by the Banco de México.
Classic design
Obverse: Mexican coat of arms — the golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus devouring a serpent, surrounded by “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.”
Reverse: Iconic Winged Victory (Ángel de la Independencia) standing before the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, with “1 ONZA PLATA PURA,” the date, “MEXICO,” and “Ley 999.”
Early Libertads (1982–1989) also carry the lettered edge “INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD.”

High-grade examples are scarce because these were often handled as bullion. Per recent PCGS Population Report for the 1989-Mo Onza Libertad
Ag w/o Dot before 999:
MS68: roughly 160–180 graded worldwide
MS69: only about 13–14
MS70: essentially none at PCGS
This MS68 sits right at the top of the population curve. True condition rarity in a popular series — and this one has that fresh, blazing white luster collectors chase.
This coin came straight from an original roll I broke up and submitted (sourced from a German man). Problem-free, blast-white surfaces, and it looks even better in hand.
