Walter Mondale was a U.S. Senator from Minnesota who was chosen to be Jimmy Carter\'s running mate in 1976. After they won in a real squeaker, they were sufficiently creamed and pureed by Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush in the fall of 1980.
There was a very crowded field for the democrats running in 1984, but Mondale prevailed over everyone and then chose New York Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro to be his running mate at the Democratic National Convention. They then proceeded to be slaughtered in the fall election by the biggest electoral landslide in post-World War II American history by Reagan and Bush for their second term.
