About the Machine
Introduced in 1970, the Kawasaki F5 Big Horn was one of the most advanced dual-purpose motorcycles of its era and helped establish Kawasaki as a serious contender in the growing enduro market. Designed to perform both on the street and on rugged trails, the Big Horn combined lightweight handling with the strong performance of a large-displacement two-stroke engine.
The F5 was powered by a 350cc air-cooled rotary-valve two-stroke single-cylinder engine producing approximately 33 horsepower. The rotary-valve induction system provided excellent throttle response and broad power delivery, giving the Big Horn performance that rivaled many larger four-stroke motorcycles of the period. A five-speed transmission and robust chassis made it equally capable on highways, desert trails, and backcountry roads.
One of the Big Horn\'s most innovative features was Kawasaki\'s F.I. (Fuel Injection) oil-injection system, which automatically mixed oil with the fuel supply, eliminating the need for riders to premix gasoline and oil. This convenience helped make the motorcycle especially popular with recreational riders and long-distance adventurers.
The F5 Big Horn quickly earned a reputation for durability, speed, and versatility. Its combination of strong two-stroke power, comfortable ergonomics, and genuine off-road capability made it one of the most respected Japanese enduro motorcycles of the early 1970s. Today, the Big Horn remains a highly collectible classic and is considered an important milestone in Kawasaki\'s off-road heritage.
