Original Vintage 1950s The Lawrence Hotel Restaurant Menu West 10th Peach Street Erie Pennsylvania #1
The Hotel Lawrence was built in 1911 at the northwest corner of West 10th and Peach Streets in downtown Erie, Pennsylvania, a beaux-arts hotel of 267 rooms operated by the United Hotels Company and counted among the leading hotels in the state. Its most celebrated guest was Senator John F. Kennedy, who stayed the night of September 27, 1960 during his presidential campaign, breakfasted with supporters in the banquet room, and spoke to thousands packed at 10th and Peach as local Catholic schools let out so students could attend. A victim of postwar suburbanization and downtown urban renewal, the Hotel Lawrence was demolished in 1968, and a Hilton was built on the site in 1974.
