United States military ‘ jungle backpack ‘
WW2 military combat rucksack
utilized by both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army starting in 1943.
Scarce WW2 issue
O.D. ETO Green version !
( the camouflage versions are far more common )
Very good condition-
Very light signs of use
Just one tiny hole in the front of the sack
( see the photos )
and a couple of small , barely noticeable tiny spot like stains on the backside

- it comes with the ORIGINAL waterproof clothing bag ( small duffel bag )
The clothing bag was originally ISSUED specifically for these jungle rucksacks
They were intended to be used in conjunction with this backpack along with innovative backpack
( you NEVER see these inner bags ,
as they were quickly separated from the pack , and used for other purposes)
these rare backpacks Feature a large expansive reinforced main lower compartment,
and a smaller zippered upper compartment, for easy access to small arms ammo or first aid gear during an emergency
there are web cartridge belt style loops sewn along the upper section ,
designed either to hold extra ammo ,….
or for inserting native foliage in order to create camouflage for breaking up the hard lines of the rectangular rucksack
Rarely seen today
These OD jungle packs were issued on a limited basis in the ETO ( European theater of operations)
A frog spot camo version was distributed in the PTO ( pacific theater of operations)
They were designed as a replacement to the odd & cumbersome M-1928 back pack.
This OD Jungle pack is marked ‘ 1943’
These were issued in Europe as early as D DAY ,…
photographic evidence shows them being worn in ETO in 1944 through spring of 1945
According to Army records
("Clothing and Equipment for Special Forces"- 1944),
the '43 Field Pack, still often referred to in the text as the "Jungle Pack",
the O.D. Green version was developed so it could be used in any setting, including areas "where the jungle camouflage pattern would be a handicap,"
