A beautiful wartime Mercury dime from the San Francisco Mint, certified by PCGS at MS65FB — Gem Mint State with Full Bands.
The Full Bands designation is particularly significant within the Mercury dime series. PCGS awards the designation to Mint State examples exhibiting the required separation of the horizontal bands across the fasces on the reverse—one of the principal strike-quality distinctions sought by advanced Mercury dime collectors.

Struck at San Francisco in 1941, this coin dates from the final months before America\'s entry into World War II. It combines an historic date, Weinman\'s superb design, Gem Mint State preservation and the desirable PCGS Full Bands designation.
THE COIN
Adolph A. Weinman\'s famous Winged Liberty Head design has been known almost universally as the Mercury dime since its introduction in 1916.
Liberty wears a winged Phrygian cap symbolizing freedom of thought. The reverse combines a fasces—representing strength through unity—with an olive branch representing peace.
On Full Bands examples, the reverse becomes particularly important.
The central horizontal bands binding the fasces exhibit the separation required for PCGS\'s FB designation, indicating a notably well-struck example in an area frequently lacking full definition.
Our enlarged macro photographs make that distinction considerably easier to appreciate than it is when staring at a 17.9 mm coin through a plastic holder.

HOLDER CONDITION
The coin remains securely encapsulated in its PCGS holder.
As clearly shown in our photographs, the holder exhibits exterior storage and handling wear, including scuffs, scratches and abrasions. These become positively geological under our macro photography but are cosmetic wear to the slab rather than the encapsulated coin.
The PCGS MS65FB grade and Full Bands designation apply to the coin inside the holder.
The holder has not been polished or otherwise cosmetically \"improved\" for photography.
