This is a 1937-S San Francisco Wheat Cent - 89 years old this year.
The S-mint in 1937 struck the lowest number of the three mints - 34 million - and this brown example has that soft, even patina that comes from decades in a drawer, not from a dip or a wheel.
Obverse - IN GOD WE TRUST is clear around the upper rim with a little darker toning near WE TRUST at the top right, LIBERTY on the left is bold and cleanly separated, 1937-S date is crisp with the small S mintmark right under the 7. Lincoln shows smooth, even circulation - hair detail softened, cheek with that bright flat spot, bow tie and coat still defined.
Reverse - E PLURIBUS UNUM along the top edge is readable, ONE CENT is bold in the center, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and OF AMERICA below are fully readable, both wheat ears show kernel lines with light flattening at the top. A touch of darker toning along the lower right rim around 5 o'clock adds character.
No holes, no bends, no verdigris, full date, full rims.
Angled lighting was used to reveal hairlines and handling and to show rim toning near the top. What this coin went through prior to current handling regarding cleaning is unknown - the photos are the final judge - opinion is it appears original and uncleaned with natural brown surfaces.
This coin has not been cleaned during current handling.
