1930 Standing Liberty Quarter, Type 2b (Recessed Date), PCGS AU-58
Standing Liberty Quarters struck from 1925 through 1930 are categorized by PCGS as Type 2b, distinguished by a recessed date. The Mint hollowed out the pedestal beneath Liberty and set the date numerals into this recessed area, a change made to address the earlier issue\'s date being highly vulnerable to wear, which caused many \"dateless\" survivors of the 1916–1924 issues. 1930 marked the final year the Standing Liberty Quarter was struck; no quarters were minted in 1931, and the series was succeeded by the Washington Quarter beginning in 1932. This coin has been certified PCGS AU-58, indicating light, even wear on the highest points with most original mint luster still present.
Disclaimers:
The coin is a certified coin. That is, the coin’s grade has been certified by an independent grading service. In my opinion, PCGS and CAC are the tier-one grading services with the highest standards in the industry. If the coin has been certified by a different grading service, their standards may be lower.
