The reverse also notes the artist’s affiliations with several art organizations, including the American Artists Professional League and other societies.
Allis was a well-documented landscape painter who studied in Detroit, New York, and with Bouguereau in Paris. He exhibited widely and was a member of the Society of Western Artists, National Society of American Artists, and other groups listed on the original paper label still attached to the reverse.
The painting depicts a summer landscape near the Susquehanna River in the Binghamton, New York area. Impressionist handling typical of Allis’s work.
