Original 1919 first-edition history of the U.S.S. Harrisburg, written by R. B. Holt and titled The Queen of the Ocean in Peace and in War. This uncommon ship history documents the vessel’s service as an ocean liner, armed merchantman and World War I troop transport.
Illustrated throughout with historic photographs, drawings, cartoons and detailed accounts of life aboard ship. Contents include the Harrisburg’s wartime operations, convoy service, troop movements, voyage itinerary and images of officers, crew and returning soldiers. Original dark blue cloth hardcover with gilt ship illustration and lettering. No dust jacket. Binding remains intact and pages appear complete. Exterior shows age-related spotting, rubbing and light wear. Interior has scattered toning and minor handling wear, with some visible thread and separation beginning near the lower title-page gutter as photographed.
