18th Century Antique Dutch Bimetal Engraved Box, Biblical Scenes, Copper & Brass
A finely crafted antique Dutch bimetal box measuring approximately 6.75 x 2 inches, constructed in copper and brass. The copper sides are decorated with repeating geometric motifs, providing a striking contrast to the more detailed engraved panels.
Both the top and bottom are intricately engraved with biblical scenes and script, executed in a naïve yet expressive hand typical of regional folk craftsmanship. These narrative engravings give the piece a strong devotional and historical character. The interior is plain and unengraved, showing a softly worn gilt surface from age and use.
Condition is consistent with age, including surface wear, patina, and a slight buckling to the edge of base (placed arrows at small dents). The hinge remains intact, and the box presents well overall.
