Original antique tintype photograph showing a group of four women posed together in elaborate late-Victorian clothing and large decorative hats.The image has considerably more visual interest than a typical studio portrait, with all four women shown nearly full length against a painted studio backdrop. Their hats, contrasting jackets and dresses, and group composition give the photograph a lively period appearance.The reverse contains several period handwritten inscriptions. Readable portions appear to include:“Maggie Killorin”
“Seaforth Ont.”
“May Irwin”
and a date that appears to read August 15, 1892.Additional writing is present but is partially obscured or difficult to decipher. Please review the photographs for the exact inscriptions.Measures approximately 2 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches, placing it approximately in the 1/6 plate size range.Condition shows typical antique wear including surface scratches, light abrasions and edge wear. The image remains clear with very good facial and clothing detail. Reverse has period handwritten identification as well as an older orange inventory marking.A particularly appealing identified Victorian tintype with a documented 1892 date, Ontario association, four female subjects and unusually decorative period fashion.
