The volume closes with the engraved plates illustrating hundreds of numbered figures of single-celled organisms, diatoms, desmids, rotifers and related forms, many finely hand-coloured. Carries the ownership stamps of the Royal Microscopical Society throughout.
Half leather over marbled boards, with a raised-band spine richly tooled in gilt and a dark leather title label lettered INFUSORIA. The label is chipped and cracked with loss, and the spine, joints and corners show rubbing and wear consistent with age. Boards remain firm and the text block is sound.
