This coin has been holed and was nailed to the rafter of a colonial structure as a protection against poverty. The coin was nailed up high on a rafter or exposed beam as a talisman of sorts. The coin was hammered in place with the date side down, facing the wall and that is why the details on the reverse are not as damaged as the details on the obverse, which got a bit hammered. A very interesting metal detector find from near Williamsburg Va, that was detected on an old colonial home site that had been built on many times in the past. This is a damaged coin, but the story behind why it was nailed to the roof of a house is a statement about an innocent time that we cannot return to.
