A Poussin title page, a friar\'s signature, and a convent that catalogued this Bible in 1764

The engraved title is signed N. Poussin in. at the foot and N. Auroux fc. opposite. The design is Nicolas Poussin\'s: God the Father in glory above, the Church writing at the left, and the Synagogue veiled and turned away at the right. Poussin made it for the great Imprimerie Royale Bible of 1642, engraved there by Claude Mellan, and Lyon publishers kept the composition alive for a generation afterwards. This is Auroux\'s version of it.
A complete Latin Vulgate. The text runs from the Ordo librorum and Genesis, Hebraice Beresith, through the Old Testament and the four Gospels to the Apocalypse, then the appendix that Clementine Bibles carry after the New Testament, the Prayer of Manasses with the third and fourth books of Esdras, closing with the Index Biblicus and the printer\'s colophon. Printed in double columns in small type with marginal references throughout.
Two hands record where the book lived. On the leaf after the colophon, in a fine calligraphic script, Ex libris Joannis Baptistae Jayr minoris 1740, with his signature repeated below; minoris most likely marks him a Friar Minor, though it can also mean the younger. On the front endpaper and again inside the rear cover, in a second hand, inscriptus catalogo conventus montis crescentis 1764: entered in the catalogue of the convent of Mons Crescens in 1764. The house has not been identified, so the reader who recognises the name will know something we do not.
Bound in contemporary calf over boards, the spine with raised bands. About 7 x 4.5 x 2.25 inches.
Condition
Good, and honest about its age. The text block is sound and firmly held, the volume opens and closes properly, and the boards are attached. The paper is generally clean and the type sharp, with dampstaining to some leaves, a few small worm holes, and light browning. The engraved title is a clean impression with a marginal ink inscription dated 1740. The calf is the weak point: dry and worn throughout, cracked and flaking with surface loss across both covers and along the spine, and rubbed at the corners and the spine ends. It holds well in the hand and is stable, but it is a tired binding on a sound book.
