INCREDIBLY RARE Noritake by Morimura Brothers set of 12 dinner plates.EachNoritakeplate has a decorative banding of gilt garlands, orange/red background with fourcartouche vignette images of classical figuresplaying instruments in a garden typical oftheClassical Revival by Morimura Bros. for Noritake, made in Japan and hand painted onglazed ceramic. The images of the Classical figuresare similar to thosefoundonplatesbyEuropean ceramicsfirm ofRudolf Kampf.Noritake, during this period, also producedother traditionalpatterns and designs such asfox hunt scenes, elaborate gardens,andother decorative platesin four cartouches on the band/rimreferencing traditionalEuropean imagery.While thispattern is rare for Noritake, it is in keeping with Noritake’smid 20thcentury production of dinnerware patterns that mimic traditional Europeandesigns.The plate is marked on the underside as“Noritake China Hand Painted Japan”with the wreath and Mbackstamp oftheNoritake firm.
