This is from the early 20th century.....early days of medicine practice (I am thinking 1930s, 1940s)The handle,knobs and the 4 "legs" all appear to be bakeliteThis is an electric powered sterilizer....the inner "tub" holds water that when the unit is turned on....heats upI tested this and it heats up pretty quickly....I did not test the final temp but it was HOTThis comes with a rectangular tray that fits on the rack that drops into the water when lid is closedIt also comes with a smaller dip tray that would hold small items for sterilizationThe handle on the right side opens the lid and raised the rack/tray at the same time (see pics)The American Sterilizer Company on the front lights up red when the unit is turned onThere is a spigot on the far right side that allows you to drain the water from the inner "tub" easilyEverything works as it was designed to....the unit does have minor signs of wear and useSome minor surface scuffs, scratches and one or two tiny dings to the metal outer shell (see pics)Inner "tub" shows signs of use and having held water....metal surface is "heat stained" in some spotsNo holes...no corrosion, no damage to inner tub....drain spigot allows water to flow freelyThis is being sold "AS IS" and there is no promise or guarantee that this would sterilize to today's medical standardsThis unit is HEAVY....weighs almost 25 lbsMeasures 17" wide x 7" deep x 8" tall
